Kazakhstan increasingly moving to remote payment channels

Digitization and the development of innovative technologies have contributed to the active transition of the banking sector to remote payment channels. In total in the first three quarters of 2017, there were more than 58.9 million transactions using payments cards via internet or mobile banking sources, representing KZT 715.7 billion. This is a year-on-year increase of 51.9% and 78.9%, respectively. Just in November 2017, the amount and volume of non-cash payments rose by 6.5% and 4.6% respectively as compared to October 2017. In total, non-cash payments have already reached 23.4% of turnover in value and 53.2% in number of transactions. Moreover, almost 47% of (compared to 27.5% a year earlier) were made via the internet.

The main growth of e-commerce is in retail sales of non-food goods, particularly building materials, cosmetics, toiletries and household appliances.
