HR needs to embrace changing mindset of employees

Ever-changing realities coupled with shortages of qualified labor have led to a bit of a crisis in the human resources (HR) world. While companies fight over ways to attract the best people and work to retrain current staff to fit new needs, HR departments are failing to realize that the mindset of employees is changing away from traditional principles of labor relations. Instead of a hierarchical relationship, employees (especially millennials) are demanding a horizontal relationship. Instead of a job, employees are demanding a sphere in which to work.

HR departments around the world need to embrace these new realities if they are to find success in attracting the best people. Freelancing, online employee education, remote work, automated recruitment and digital talent management are not only the future; they are the present. If a company is to survive, it must abandon traditional and conservative HR models, embracing the alternatives that will soon become the norms.
