In a recent interview, Mariusz Zabrocki, managing director of iwoca Poland, spoke about online lending to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Mr. Zabrocki noted that SMEs are changing thanks to the conveniences offered by modern technology, with many SMEs seeking fast, easy and small loans. While many turn to banks first, banks have demonstrated a reticence to offer what SMEs want due to the costs associated with serving their needs. As a result, online-only alternative-to-bank lenders (such as iwoca) have begun to establish themselves by specifically offering products and services to reach these customers. As an example of this growth, iwoca estimates its annual growth rate at 2.5 times and believes it can work to further penetrate into the market and attract customers.
