The Basel Committee has published its Digitalization of Finance report on the implications of digital finance for banks and supervision. Building on a 2018 report, it highlights benefits and risks of AI, distributed ledger technology and cloud computing. The report also identifies 8 key implications for banks and supervisors, focusing on macro-structural elements, digitalization themes and capacity building. Furthermore, it stresses the need for robust governance, risk management and regulatory measures to address new vulnerabilities and system-wide risks. The Committee will continue monitoring digital finance developments and develop new standards or guidance recommendations.
