A recent IFC survey involving 114 fintech firms in emerging markets explored how these firms view financial inclusion for women. The Her Fintech Edge: Market Insights for Inclusive Growth report reveals that women only comprise a minority in fintech portfolios, with 63% of lending-focused firms noting that women-owned SMEs make up less than a quarter of their total portfolio. At the same, fintechs do recognize the substantial benefits of serving female customers, including greater loyalty, lower risks and strong revenue potential. According to the survey, 69% of firms perceive women as more or as equally loyal as men. The presence of leadership that values serving women significantly is driving inclusion efforts, with 58% of firms citing leaders’ beliefs in the importance of women’s financial inclusion as a key motivator.
