Uniteller and Optima Bank have joined forces to launch a new online payment service, meaning that a number of additional services may now be paid online using Visa bankcards. This is important for Kyrgyzstan as the country continues to develop its digital space.
The number of internet users in the country was 5.24 million (85% of the population) at the beginning of 2017 and is expected to continue to grow as internet penetration into rural areas increases. Moreover, the total number of bank payment cards in circulation in Kyrgyzstan has increased by about 37% every year. All of this means that the country is likely to see more and more demand for goods and services that can be ordered and paid for online.
